Selectman Burns has been away on vacation.  He returned Monday and since then has been reading mail and getting caught up on things.

Selectman Booker reported that she was out part of the time over the holidays.  Other than that she has been in each day handling day-to-day, normal things that have gone on.

Selectman Santolucito reported that he attended the SAD 6 Budget Advisory Committee meeting with some of the other Selectmen on December 22.  He commented on the website that Bill Brockman put up and said it is fantastic.  He also talked about how transparent the district has made the whole budget process and encouraged people to attend the meetings.  He said this is the time for input on the school budget and this administration has made the information very easy to get.

Selectman Harmon said it is coming up on budget time and the Board needs to have a workshop to get ready for that.  She said the Board has been notified of a meeting next Thursday on Stackpole Creek Bridge and she is planning to attend that in the afternoon, and the school district meeting on the 12th.

Selectman Emery reported that he has been in quite a few times over the last two weeks, talking with Department Heads, going through some issues, giving advice when advice was asked for, and trying to stay out of the way when he needs to.  He talked about how busy the 12th is going to be with all the meetings and said he is going to the Planning Board Meeting.  They are having a workshop on the road upgrade they are working on.  He said the upgrade will have a very positive effect for the town and it will be voted on at a Special Town Meeting that will be coming up soon.

Buxton Recreation has discounted Portland Dine Around Club Cards available for $25.00 versus the normal $29.95.  We also have Lost Valley Ski tickets for $25.00 vs. $40.00 gate price, and Attitash/Wildcat tickets for $10 off gate prices.  For more information you may contact Tashia Pinkham, Recreation Director at 929-8381.

Selectman Harmon added that the Recreation Department also has snowshoes available to rent.

Selectman Burns said the elected officials he mentioned earlier that have been invited to the SAD 6 Municipal Officer Meeting Monday, January 12, are elected Augusta officials, State Legislators and State Representatives.  He said it will be an interesting meeting and he encouraged people to go to the meeting to hear the discussion.

Selectman Burns advised Time Warner customers to look closely at their next bill because there are going to be some significant increases.  For those who rent an internet modem, the cost will increase from $5.99/month to $8.00/month.  He said that there are other alternatives and suggested that anyone who rents a box contact Time Warner, get a list of approved brand names, and consider buying their own.  The cost is usually less than $100 and it would pay for itself in less than a year.  Selectman Burns cautioned folks not to contact him.  He has no control over any of the increased rates and it has nothing to do with our contract with them.  This is for internet users.

  • Public Comments and Questions
Chief Grovo went over statistics for the past couple weeks.  He said there were approximately 312 calls.

Chief Grovo talked about the Police Department having to close down Flaggy Meadow Road a few days ago because there was an individual with arrest warrants in the area.  State Police were called in but by the time they got all set up, the individual left Buxton.  He was finally arrested today in Massachusetts.  Chief Grovo thanked everyone for their patience.

Chief Grovo talked about a scam on Craig’s List where an individual is advertising to sell seasoned fire wood, taking money for it, and not delivering the wood.  He gave a couple of examples of people who paid but never received the wood, and encouraged people to contact the police if they have been caught in the scam or have questions.
